About the Artist & Exhibit:
I’m Matt Hassan, born 최경수.
In the spring of 2025 I returned to Korea for the first time since being adopted. Previously l’d made art all my life, but never in a way that connected to my cultural identity.
In Korea I experienced amazing people, places, and l also brought back traditional art supplies. Since getting back I’ve used them to capture memories from the trip and explore art making from a Korean adoptee’s perspective.
Throughout June my solo art exhibition will be on view at EventThem Studios. You’ll find art that I created both before and after my trip to Korea. Every piece is a part of my journey as an artist and also as an adoptee.
