Family Reunion Ideas for a “Perfect” Get-Together

At the heart of every family get-together is an activity around which everybody gathers to spend quality time, share, and even compete. Yet, when planning a special reunion it can sometimes be difficult to find just the right pastime for the whole family to enjoy. If you find yourself in this very dilemma, here are some family reunion ideas to make your next family gathering the most fun and memorable of all – brought to you by EventThem!

Game Night

Who doesn’t love a little friendly competition? Game nights are certainly some of the most beloved family gatherings. Take out all of your best board games and put together a night of dice rolls, thrill, and lots of fun. Whether you’re hosting a big round of charades for everyone to participate in, or setting up Sorry! and Connect 4 for the kids while the adults play a hand of poker, the possibilities are endless. Some other ideas for family-wide games to consider include Apples and Apples, Bananagrams, Spoons, Heads Up, Uno, Monopoly, Scattergories, and of course Pictionary.

Movie Marathons

A simple, cozy, old-style family movie marathon is another lovely way to spend time together. Pop some bags of popcorn, put out some colorful candy, and assemble some pillows and blankets for a night filled with your family’s favorite streamings. If you would like to take your movie marathons to the next level, consider investing in a home projector and make movie nights a more habitual get-together. Some highly-recommended, family-friendly marathon series to consider include Harry Potter, Disney and Pixar Movies, Avengers Movies, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, Planet of the Apes, The Muppets, Jurassic Park, and Lord of the Rings.

Bake Off

Are you a cooking enthusiast? Or would you simply like to try something new? Put your baking skills to the test with a homemade, British-style, family bake-off. Split into two or more groups and attempt the same recipe to see who makes it best. You can also make a fresh badge of cupcakes or sugar cookies and make it a decoration contest. If you’re more advanced and would like a bigger challenge to undertake together, put together a list of ingredients and make it a TV-style bake-off where everyone makes their own dessert. Some recipes to consider include Chocolate Chip Cookies, Brownies, Cake Pops, Cinnamon Rolls, Sweet Pizza, Biscuits, and your very own creative Cupcakes.

Olympic Yard Games

Running. Throwing. Jumping. Relay Racing. If these are all things your family enjoys doing, turn your own backyard into an Olympic Yard Games match for your next get-together. Assemble buckets together for an outdoor giant pong game, and take out your bag toss set if you have one. You can also set up a Hula-Hoop-a-thon, water balloon relay race, frisbee throw competition, egg race, and more. Simply get a little creative, choose your favorite outdoor games, and create your very own DIY family Olympic matches at home.

Picnic

There is no more perfect way to enjoy a sunny day than a picnic, which makes it the perfect family get-together during the warmer months. It takes very little planning, and always makes for a lovely time, so if you find yourself planning a last-minute gathering, or simply want to enjoy food and family time in the sun without going through too much planning, take out your baskets and make it a day. Take some blankets, snacks, a few pre-made sandwiches, and beverages, and head to your favorite park for a picnic day. Don’t forget to bring plates, cups, napkins, and even a little sunscreen if you plan on being out for a long time.

Create Artwork

Bring out your inner artist and create artwork together as a family in your next get-together. Buy a blank canvas pack, some paint, and paint brushes, and have everyone create their own masterpiece. You can paint a particular image, or imitate a painting, and test who made it best. You can also visit a remote place, or simply take inspiration from your own backyard, and paint what is right in front of you. If you’re feeling more creative and would like something a bit more funky and fun, everyone can paint their own unique abstract creation and end with a big reveal. The possibilities are endless.
