SUMMARY:Matt Hassan Exhibition – Flying Home
DESCRIPTION:Stay tuned for more information about our June 2026 exhibit by artist Matt Hassan! \nAbout the Artist:\nHi! I’m Matt Hassan\, born 최경수. \nIn the spring of 2025\, I returned to Korea for the first time since being adopted. The experience built a foundation for my identity both as an adult adoptee and an artist. Previously\, I’d made art all my life\, but never in a way that connected to my cultural identity. \nIn Korea I experienced amazing people\, places\, and I also brought back traditional art supplies. Since getting back\, I’ve used them to process my feelings and capture memories from the trip\, one ink painting at a time. I’ve found how healing it can be to portray meaningful places and symbols in a painting. \nAnd so I’m currently creating custom ink paintings of people’s meaningful places. I also recently drew a series of 19 magpies\, the national bird of South Korea. \nMeanwhile\, I’m selling prints and greeting cards of my original characters around Boston at Brookline Booksmith in Coolidge Corner and Colleen’s Ice Cream & Sandwiches in Medford.
